Auto-detect covers Whisper's 99 languages, and you can pin one of 20 in Settings.

Supported languages

Whisper recognises 99 languages, and with the language set to Auto-detect Shout will transcribe any of them. These are the 20 you can pin in Settings → Transcription, which makes recognition faster and more reliable when you always speak the same one:

Anything else Whisper knows — Norwegian, Danish, Greek, Czech, Ukrainian, Hebrew, Thai and the rest of its 99 — works through Auto-detect, though it can’t be pinned. Parakeet is English-only, so a non-English language always uses Whisper.

Tip

Automatic language detection works well for most content. For faster and more accurate results — especially in noisy environments — set a specific language in Settings.
