Privacy Policy

Shout is built on a simple principle: your data stays on your device. We designed Shout to process everything locally so your audio, recordings, and transcriptions never leave your Mac. This policy explains the data we do handle: your licence, crash reports, and usage analytics if you choose to turn them on.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Audio recordings are never transmitted off your device
  • Transcription text is never sent to any server
  • No keystroke or clipboard monitoring
  • No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
  • No usage analytics unless you switch them on (see below)

Data We Do Collect

To manage your license, we handle:

  • Purchase email — the address you buy with. Lemon Squeezy sends your licence key to it, and we use it to answer support requests
  • Purchase information — processed and stored by LemonSqueezy (our merchant of record); we receive a transaction reference but do not store your payment card details

Crash Reports (On Unless You Turn Them Off)

During setup, Shout asks whether to send crash reports. The switch starts on, and you can change it then or at any time in Settings. While it is on, a crash or a freeze sends a report to Sentry containing the stack trace, your app and macOS versions, a short trail of recent app events (for example a microphone switch or a model loading) and a random installation ID. If you have activated a licence, your licence email is attached too, so we can match a report to a support request and, occasionally, write to you about a problem we can see you are hitting. No audio and no transcription text is ever included.

Usage Analytics (Off Unless You Turn Them On)

Usage analytics are off by default. You can turn them on during setup or later in Settings, and off again whenever you like. While they are on, Shout sends events to PostHog, hosted in the EU, describing what the app did: for example that a recording started or a transcription finished, how long it was, how many characters it produced, which engine ran it, and the name of the app the text was pasted into. Events carry the same random installation ID, running totals of how many transcriptions and hours you have recorded and, if you have activated a licence, your licence email, for the same reason as crash reports: so that what we see can be tied to a support request. They never contain audio or the text of a transcription. Turn the switch off and nothing more is sent.

Local Processing

All speech-to-text processing happens on your Mac using the Apple Neural Engine. The transcription model is downloaded once and runs entirely on-device. No internet connection is required for transcription — you can use Shout on an airplane or in a completely offline environment.

Third-Party Services

We use three third-party services. Only the first is involved unless the switches above are on:

  • LemonSqueezy — our merchant of record, handling payment processing, taxes, and invoicing. Your payment details are processed directly by LemonSqueezy and are never sent to our servers. See LemonSqueezy's Privacy Policy

Data Storage & Security

Your recordings and transcriptions are stored locally on your Mac in your user directory. We do not have access to these files. We do not run a customer database of our own: your purchase record and licence key are held by Lemon Squeezy, and this site has no accounts.

Your Rights

You can ask us to delete any support correspondence, and ask Lemon Squeezy to delete your purchase record, at any time by contacting us. You can also ask us to delete the crash reports and analytics tied to your licence email or installation, and we will. Since recordings and transcriptions are stored locally, you have full control over that data — simply delete the files from your Mac.

Children's Privacy

Shout is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or through the application. Continued use of Shout after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. The Lemon Squeezy checkout, which opens in an overlay when you buy, may set cookies for the payment session under its own privacy policy. This website has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies of any kind.
