Privacy Policy

Shout is built on a simple principle: your data stays on your device. We designed Shout to process everything locally so your audio, recordings, and transcriptions never leave your Mac. This policy explains the minimal data we handle as part of running the service.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Audio recordings are never transmitted off your device
  • Transcription text is never sent to any server
  • No usage telemetry or analytics
  • No keystroke or clipboard monitoring
  • No advertising identifiers or tracking pixels

Data We Do Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to manage your license:

  • Account email — used for license activation and support communication
  • Purchase information — processed and stored by LemonSqueezy (our merchant of record); we receive a transaction reference but do not store your payment card details

Crash Reports (Optional)

Shout offers an optional crash reporting feature that you can enable or disable at any time in Settings. If enabled, anonymous crash data (stack traces, app version, macOS version) is sent to help us fix bugs. No audio, transcription, or personal data is included in crash reports.

Local Processing

All speech-to-text processing happens on your Mac using the Apple Neural Engine. The transcription model is downloaded once and runs entirely on-device. No internet connection is required for transcription — you can use Shout on an airplane or in a completely offline environment.

Third-Party Services

We use a small number of third-party services, strictly for account and payment management:

  • LemonSqueezy — our merchant of record, handling payment processing, taxes, and invoicing. Your payment details are processed directly by LemonSqueezy and are never sent to our servers. See LemonSqueezy's Privacy Policy
  • Supabase — authentication and license key storage

Data Storage & Security

Your recordings and transcriptions are stored locally on your Mac in your user directory. We do not have access to these files. Account data (email and license status) is stored securely in Supabase with encryption at rest and in transit.

Your Rights

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us. Since recordings and transcriptions are stored locally, you have full control over that data — simply delete the files from your Mac.

Children's Privacy

Shout is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or through the application. Continued use of Shout after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
