Getting StartedEssential

Installation

Download, install, and grant the permissions Shout needs to work.

Download & install

01

Download Shout

Click the Download for Mac button on our homepage to get the latest .dmg file.

02

Open the disk image

Double-click the downloaded .dmg file to mount it.

03

Drag to Applications

Drag the Shout icon into your Applications folder.

04

Launch Shout

Open Shout from your Applications folder or Spotlight. Shout lives in your menu bar — look for the icon at the top of your screen.

When you first launch Shout, macOS may show a security prompt for an app from an identified developer. Click Open to continue.

Permissions

Shout needs three permissions to function. You'll be prompted to grant each on first launch.

Microphone

Required for capturing your voice. This is the core input for transcription.

Accessibility

Required for global keyboard shortcuts to work from any application.

Screen & System Audio

Required for capturing audio from meetings, calls, and other applications.

Shout cannot function without these permissions. If you skipped a prompt, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security to grant them manually.
